Catunda Turin has an edge in Tilen New Company Stakes at Sheffield

Taking an early lead always helps a hound to win short-distance races. Catunda Turin is standing in the red box, and holds an obvious chance of gaining a handsome advantage early on, and if the black dog manages to do so, he will be in a great position to notch up the first rank in Tilen New Company Stakes, to be held at Sheffield on Tuesday, August 28, 2012.

B. Draper?s charge is performing quite consistently these days. He narrowly missed the gold medal twice in the A2 class here at the start of this month. After a couple of very fine performances, the dashing hound stepped up to this level, and was not disgraced last time. The audience at Monmore saw him doing a decent job despite getting crowded twice.

He ran well to seize the third position behind His Own Business. Today?s draw looks a lot favourable for him, and there is no reason why he should not come up with a bold show. A pack of five dangerous runners are all set to make things tricky for Catunda Turin.

Their names are: Sporty Joe, Dreams Of Glory, Calling The Rock, Gaytime Triggs and Cornamaddy Dawn. The 280 metres flat race is going to be kicked off at 19:58 GMT. The champion hound will leave the field with a cash prize worth ?200.

Cornamaddy Dawn is on the watch list for tonight. The black bitch is well prepared to present something special on her debut. Coping up with the pressure would be a tough task though.

Gaytime Triggs was thrown in at the deep end at Monmore. After a poor show, it will be hard for him to demonstrate something special. Sporty Joe flopped from the red box last week. The black dog, however, has a good record in the fourth trap, from which he is due to start today. A drop to two bends should suit Dreams Of Glory, but doing the trick straight after his promotion to this class will be a herculean task.

Sporty Joe is back in the box of his choice. So, he looks to be a major threat to Catunda Turin. We wish the best of luck to all the hounds.

(AP) ? Fast friends in the Little League dorms, the boys from Japan and Tennessee played one last game Sunday to decide which team would be crowned World Series champions.

Noriatsu Osaka's big bat helped send the team from Tokyo home with the title banner.

Osaka's third home run of the game put an exclamation point on Japan's 12-2 victory over Tennessee in five innings in the Little League World Series championship game Sunday.

The 12-year-old Osaka added a triple for good measure in his 4-for-4 afternoon. In a symbolic gesture, Japan's players jogged the traditional postgame victory lap carrying the flags for both their home country and the United States.

"We had such a great time in Pennsylvania and we really played a good game today. It was kind of a, 'Thanks,'" Osaka said through an interpreter.

Starter Kotaro Kiyomiya struck out eight in four innings and added an RBI single for Japan. The game ended in the fifth after Osaka's third homer made it a 10-run game.

"We thought we played the best in the tournament so far, especially to win by the 10-run rule in the finals," said 12-year-old Rintaro Hirano, who homered in the fourth to make it 10-1.

A day after pounding out a 24-16 win over California in the U.S. title game, the Goodlettsville, Tenn., sluggers could only muster two hits ? solo homers by Brock Myers and Lorenzo Butler.

It was a bittersweet final for two teams that grew close during their two weeks in South Williamsport. They exchanged customary postgame handshakes at the plate before Japan received the World Series championship banner and took their warning-track run.

"Tennessee was our best friends in the U.S. division," Kiyomiya said.

Japan's jog finally stopped in front of the team's giddy cheering section as proud family members and friends stood shoulder-to-shoulder to take pictures through the infield fence.

There were so many highlights, including five home runs off Tennessee pitching.

That was more than enough offense for 13-year-old ace Kiyomiya, who had a fastball clocked in the high-70s. The right-hander with the hitch in mid-delivery pitched like a big league ace in allowing just one hit.

Regardless, this is still a banner year for Goodlettsville after its exhausting victory Saturday over Petaluma, Calif., for the U.S. championship. That game set a record for most combined runs in the World Series.

The thrilling victory kept the Tennessee players and their families up late into the night.

"(The parents) must have partied harder than the kids did," manager Joey Hale said. "I knew we'd be flat today."

Tennessee lost a 10-run lead in the bottom of the sixth of that game before scoring nine times the next inning to finally put away Petaluma in a Little League classic. Even more impressively, Butler had three homers and a record nine RBIs ? a feat so unique the 12-year-old's name became a trending topic on Twitter.

Butler went deep again off reliever Osaka in the fifth ? Butler's fourth homer in two days ? to cut the lead to 10-2 and give Goodlettsvile some hope. Tennessee's mini-mashers have proven they can break out any time at the plate.

"It feels really good and it was really great," Butler said simply about his hitting exploits. He said his three homers Saturday were the longest he had hit all season.

Its pitching depth sapped, Tennessee turned to right-hander Justin Smith to start against Japan ? the first time the 12-year-old had pitched in the World Series or in Southeast regional tournament.

"Everybody knew our pitching was depleted and we were bound for a letdown," Hale said. "I'm not saying we were going to beat Japan. I think they were the best team here at everything by far, pitching, hitting. But I think last night is how we want to be remembered."

Leadoff hitter Osaka, 12, didn't waste any time with a first-pitch triple to the right-field corner in the first. Kiyomiya delivered his RBI single two batters later to get the scoring started.

Osaka then homered in the second to left-center, just in front of the "Little League" sign above the fence, before leading off the fourth with his second homer, this time to center, for a 6-1 lead.

The Kitasuna league all-star team from Tokyo won Japan's eighth Little League title and second in three seasons.

While his players danced around in delight after the game, skipper Yoichi Kubo teared up. He kept his composure after managing a team that won the World Series in 2001, "but I was crying this time when we won this game as world champion," he said.

Smith pitched admirably in a tough spot, allowing five runs and seven hits over three innings while striking out three. His team was trying to make history as the first squad from Tennessee to win youth baseball's biggest prize.

Goodlettsville also was the first Tennessee team to advance to South Williamsport since Morristown in 1987. The suburban Nashville crew counts among its fans Rays ace David Price, who is from Murfreesboro.

They might be done with baseball for now, but the celebration is just beginning back home. On Tennessee's social calendar is a visit to the Vanderbilt season opener Thursday night against South Carolina.

"When we get home, it's going to be a carnival," Hale said.

use online video

In July 2012 I was invited to ?YouTube & Google ?in California to learn more about the benefits of online video for business. During our ?trip we presented at Google I/O. Our trip was an insight to the future of technology (project glass) and how online video will play it?s part in the next wave. I since came across the article below from a company in Los Angeles on why you should be marketing with online video. Thought it was worth sharing?

Online video is undoubtedly one of the most effective forms of digital marketing. In July 2012, 85.5% of American Internet users?viewed online video, and Google?reportsthat 4 out of 10 shoppers visit a store online or in-person as a direct result of watching online video. The numbers are clearly there, but here are 10 reasons you should be incorporating online video into your digital marketing strategy.

1. Video is memorable
Images and text can be captivating, but videos, complete with intriguing visuals, music, and, most importantly, narratives, will stick with viewers far longer than most media. Moreover, studies show that online videos are 38%?more memorable?than TV ads.

2. People love sharing videos
People enjoy posting links to entertaining videos on their social media accounts or sharing their favorite videos when gathered around a computer with friends. This is particularly true when the video represents their personality, world-view, or sense of humor. People want to be a bearer of quality content and be acknowledged for the entertainment they share. On Twitter alone, over 700 YouTube videos are?shared?every minute.

3. Online video can be extremely creative
With online video, there?s no limit to creativity. Beyond the creativity found in traditional media?s well-written scripts and impressive effects, online video can do virtually anything. Challenge your company to go above and beyond by producing interactive videos, using the Facebook API, allowing fans to choose plots, and more. Plus, online video can get away with more provocative or irreverent content than TV ads and isn?t restricted to traditional formats or :15, :30, 1:00 lengths.

4. People like entertainment
Simply put, people like being entertained. Online video, when done right, can be highly entertaining. When you make your customers happy, they?re more likely to buy from you.

5. It?s the gift that keeps on giving
Online videos can have an indefinitely long shelf life. Unlike TV commercials, once a video is created and uploaded, it can stay online eternally without any extra costs, allowing people to view it long after production, benefiting your brand even years down the line.

6. People are visual
65 percent of people are primarily?visual learners, and visuals have high appeal to everyone. Video, of course, is one of the most visual forms of marketing, and your customers will respond well to it.

7. Online videos can be re-purposed as TV spots
Online videos can also be used for television commercials. Measuring the videos? online success can help determine which should be made into TV spots and how much you should spend to air them.

8. Search engine optimization for online videos can be incredibly effective
Major search engines like Google feature blended search results, displaying videos, images, and other content among text-based links. Understanding SEO for videos can rocket your brand?s video to the top of results, bringing your message to a massive number of people.

9. Technology is becoming increasingly video-friendly
Most of us can remember a time when streaming video didn?t even exist or when videos took seemingly forever to load. Nowadays, high-resolution videos stream almost instantly, and they can even be accessed from our pockets. Videos are becoming easier and easier to watch and share, and video technology will continue improving rapidly in coming years.

10. Videos spark conversation
If a viral video is engaging enough, people will want to talk about it. They?ll post about it on their blog, Facebook, Twitter, or Pinterest, they?ll discuss it with friends face-to-face, and they?ll leave comments directly on the video. Inane YouTube comments may often make us want to bang our heads on our desks, but engagement is engagement. By interacting with your marketing, your potential customers are interacting with your product and will be more likely to purchase from your brand.

For these 10 reasons, as well as many others, online video is an essential aspect of any marketing strategy. When done well, video can dramatically increase conversions and make your campaign a major success.

Does your company utilize online video in your digital marketing strategy?

Despite Isaac's soaking, Keys residents laid back

KEY WEST, Fla. (AP) ? Tropical Storm Isaac barely stirred Florida Keys residents from their fabled nonchalance Sunday, while the Gulf Coast braced for the possibility that the sprawling storm will strengthen into a dangerous hurricane by the time it makes landfall there.

It was on course to strike land on the seventh anniversary of Hurricane Katrina, a powerful storm that crippled New Orleans and the Gulf Coast and became a symbol of government ineptitude. Forecasters expected Isaac to pass the Keys late Sunday before turning northwest and striking as a Category 2 hurricane somewhere between New Orleans and the Florida Panhandle on Wednesday.

The National Hurricane Center issued a hurricane warning for a large swath of the northern Gulf Coast from east of Morgan City, La. ? which includes the New Orleans area ? to Destin, Fla. A Category 2 hurricane has sustained winds of between 96 and 110 mph (154 to 177 kph).

Louisiana Gov. Bobby Jindal called a state of emergency and officials in St. Charles Parish near New Orleans told its 53,000 residents to leave ahead of the storm. Jindal also said he may skip a speaking engagement later this week at the Republican National Convention in Tampa unless the threat to his state subsides. Alabama Gov. Robert Bentley has canceled his trip to the convention because of Isaac, and Florida Gov. Rick Scott also gave up his speaking engagement.

Elected leaders' vigilance toward tropical storms has heightened in the seven years since Katrina struck. Criticism was leveled at officials reaching all the way to the White House over what was seen as the federal government's slow and bungled response to the storm that killed 1,800.

An emergency declaration was also issued in Mississippi by Gov. Phil Bryant amid concerns of storm surge threatening low-lying areas. Oil companies began evacuating workers from offshore oil rigs and cutting production in advance of Isaac.

The storm was on a course to pass west of Tampa, but it had already disrupted the Republicans' schedule there because of the likelihood of heavy rain and strong winds that extended more than 200 miles from its center.

Even before reaching hurricane strength, Isaac caused considerable inconvenience, with more than 550 flights canceled at Miami International Airport and about 150 from Fort Lauderdale's airport. There were scattered power outages from Key West to Fort Lauderdale affecting more than 16,000 customers, and flooding occurred in low-lying areas.

Gov. Rick Scott said at a news conference Sunday evening that only minor damage was reported from Isaac.

Wind gusts of 60 mph were reported as far north as Pompano Beach, north of Fort Lauderdale. But while officials urged residents in southeast Florida to stay home, that recommendation was ignored by surfers and joggers on Miami Beach and shoppers at area malls.

In Key West, Emalyn Mercer rode her bike while decked out with a snorkel and mask, inflatable arm bands and a paddle, just for a laugh. She rode with Kelly Friend, who wore a wet suit, dive cap and lobster gloves.

"We're just going for a drink," Mercer said.

"With the ones that are brave enough like us," Friend added.

Along famed Duval Street, many stores, bars and restaurants closed, the cigar rollers and palm readers packed up, and just a handful of drinking holes remained open.

But people posed for pictures at the Southernmost Point, while at a marina Dave Harris and Robyn Roth took her dachshund for a walk and checked out boats rocking along the waterfront.

"Just a summer day in Key West," Harris said.

That kind of ho-hum attitude extended farther up the coast. Edwin Reeder swung by a gas station in Miami Shores ? not for fuel, but drinks and snacks.

"This isn't a storm," he said. "It's a rain storm."

With a laugh, Reeder said he has not stocked up aside from buying dog and cat food.

The forecast wasn't funny, however. Isaac was expected to draw significant strength from the warm, open waters of the Gulf of Mexico, but there remained much uncertainty about its path.

The Gulf Coast hasn't been hit by a hurricane since 2008, when Dolly, Ike and Gustav all struck the region. Florida, meanwhile, has been hurricane-free since it was struck four times each in 2004 and 2005.

Hurricane center forecasters are uncertain of the storm's path because two of their best computer models now track the storm on opposite sides of a broad cone. One model has Isaac going well west and the other well east. For the moment, the predicted track goes up the middle.

Florida Panhandle residents stocked up on water and gasoline, and at least one Pensacola store ran out of flashlight models and C and D batteries. Scott Reynolds, who lives near the water in Gulf Breeze, filled his car trunk with several cases of water, dozens of power bars and ramen noodles.

"Cigarettes ? I'm stocking up on those too," he said.

Forecasters stressed that the storm's exact location remained extremely uncertain ? a fact not lost on Tony Varnado as he cut sheets of plywood to board up his family's beach home on Pensacola Beach. With the storm's projected path creeping farther to the west, the Mandeville, La., resident joked he might be boarding up the wrong house.

"I'm going to head back that way as soon as we are done here to make sure we are prepared if hits there," he said.

Before reaching Florida, Isaac was blamed for eight deaths in Haiti and two more in the Dominican Republic, and downed trees and power lines in Cuba. It bore down on the Keys two days after the 20th anniversary of Hurricane Andrew, which caused more than $25 billion in damage just north of the island chain.

In Tampa, convention officials said they would convene briefly on Monday, then recess until Tuesday afternoon, when the storm was expected to have passed. Scott canceled his plans to attend convention events on Sunday and Monday.

At Miami International Airport, more than 550 flights Sunday were canceled. Inside the American Airlines terminal, people craned for a look out of one of the doors as a particularly strong band of Isaac began lashing the airport with strong rain and high wind.

Michele Remillard said she was trying to get a seat on a flight to New Orleans, well aware the city could be affected by Isaac later this week. In coastal Plaquemines Parish, La., crews rushed to protect the levees that keep floodwaters from reaching that New Orleans suburb.

"It's a little scary," said Remillard, who was in town for a wedding. "But I need to get home, you know? And if the storm comes my way again, who knows, I might have to come back here."

As of 11 p.m. EDT, the storm was centered about 510 miles (820 kilometers) southeast of the mouth of the Mississippi River, according to the National Hurricane Center in Miami. Isaac had top sustained winds of 65 mph (100 kph) and was moving to the northwest at 15 mph (24 kph).

Tropical storm-force winds extended outward up to 205 miles (335 km) from the center, meaning storm conditions are possible even in places not in Isaac's direct path.

Associated Press writers Tony Winton in Key West, Melissa Nelson in Pensacola, Fla., Mike Schneider in Tampa, Fla., and Tim Reynolds, Curt Anderson and Suzette Laboy in Miami contributed to this report.

A Look at Small Business Consulting Services - Commonwealth Watch

Small Business Consulting Services Can Produce Change

When it comes to opening a small business for the first time or keeping an existing company running smoothly, there are many areas that need to be focused on. A person may feel as if they have everything under control, when, in fact, things are going haywire. A business owner or manager may be looking for a consultant to come in and assist. Here are just a few examples of some of the small business consulting services that can be offered.

As a new company, there are important things that should be addressed before operation begins. All businesses should have a business plan in place. This helps a company identify its strengths and weaknesses, and this is a very important key factor. A consultant can help set goals to keep the strength's firm and improve the weaknesses. It is a known fact that competition grows daily, no matter what the business is. A business plan should also include a comparison of the company and the opportunities for that company. This will ensure that company can stand firm and that there is a place in the market for that type of business. These are some of the small business consulting services that are very crucial.

Financial Analysis is another example of small business consulting services. A company needs to be able to get afloat and stay on top. When a consultant performs a financial analysis, they will look at things such as profitability, solvency, liquidity and stability. A company needs to be able to earn income and sustain growth in both short term and long term situations. Every business has creditors, and they may also have obtained third-party assistance. Reviewing the solvency will ensure that the company has the ability to pay their creditors. Having obligations should not hinder the ability to maintain a positive cash flow while taking care of these obligations. This is considered liquidity and it needs to be focused on as well. The stability of the company is an overall review in making sure that the company can stay in business without suffering great losses.

Marketing is one of the small business consulting services that gets the company recognized. People need to know what the company is and what they offer. There needs to be a plan set into place in making sure the company gets its name out there. This is considered market planning. This plan needs to be clear, concise and simple. Failure to have a marketing plan in place could have a very negative result on the company, possibly even keeping it from operating. One of the things that should be done is a market study. This would inform the business owner or manager if their type of company would survive. If there isn't a market in the area for that type of business, it would almost be pointless to even open it in that area. Competition is another thing to research. Every type of business has competition, but a company needs to make sure they can stand up to them. If two companies are offering the same product, but one offers it at a much higher price, a customer will obviously pick the least expensive. Speaking of customers, they are what keeps the doors open on any business. Without customers, the company would cease to exist.

These are just a few of the small business consulting services that are offered. There are many more that are available. There are many aspects of a company and a consultant can help with all of them. A consultant is someone who has expertise in one or more areas of business. Take an accountant, for example, one who has done it for years. This would be an ideal person to have in your corner when it comes to payroll or even profit and loss.

Consultants are considered to be problem solvers. When a problem occurs within a company, it should be addressed immediately. Problems that are left unattended can wreak havoc on a company. Little problems can turn into big problems virtually overnight. Sometimes the reason a problem is placed on the back burner is because the person responsible doesn't have the time to take care of it. They are trying to focus on so many things, and it is almost impossible to be in two places at once.

Perhaps there is a problem with the management, or even the employees. A consultant can come in and offer solutions such as management or leadership training. The bottom line is that consultants can help address problems that are present, and they can help keep problems from reoccurring. Either way, it is nice to know that there is help available when it is needed.

If you are thinking about starting your own business, or if you are a current business owner, there are small business management consulting services available to you that could get your company off to a great start. If you would like to learn more, you can click the link below.

Small Business Consulting Services are in great demand. With the shape of the current economy more and more people are turning to life of an entrepreneur. Will you be the business consultant to help them get started?

Buy Tickets On Bands' Facebook Pages With Tikly

When buying tickets for a concert, festival or event, do you compare the listed ticket prices on various sites?

[More from Mashable: Explore Mashable?s Enhanced Events Board for Your Next Opportunity]

The online ticket-buying space is slowly getting more contenders. Ticketmaster, a company that dates back to the 1970s, was dominant in the online ticketing space for awhile. Then other sites such as Ticketfly (founded in 2008), Eventbrite (2006) and StubHub (2000) came on the scene touting platforms integrated with social media. Some denounced the high fees of other ticketing services, essentially changing the game for online ticket sales.

Tikly is a new ticketing service that's fully integrated with Facebook. Artists, venues and events can sell directly from their Facebook page -- without fans being re-directed to another site. The ticketing service is currently in beta, with 300 clients already using it. Tikly also offers low add-on fees to tickets so that bands feel good about the prices their fans are paying to see them. Fans can buy tickets for shows in advance -- without the costly fees that some sites tack on.

[More from Mashable: Pussy Riot Songs Added to ?Protest? Station on Slacker Radio]

Emma Peterson, the 23-year-old founder and CEO of Tikly, said she created the site because she noticed the "ticket industry itself was kind of upside down." And not just from a consumer standpoint, she tells Mashable, but "the ticketing industry works against the organizers."

Peterson is also a tour manager for the band The Nadas. She saw how other ticketing sites charged fans up to 50% of the ticket price in fees, which could lower ticket sales for the band, too. Fans would be dissuaded from buying tickets in advance for smaller venue performances when they could buy tickets at the door without any fees.

She founded Tikly 2011 with business partner Brian Hemesath. The two are part of a startup incubator program in Des Moines, Iowa.

Peterson said they envisioned features for a true live music lover. Tikly's ticket buying experience, she says, aims to be as close to buying a tangible ticket as possible. Tikly provides each ticket a name , description and images, so it's not just a button to click on an app when you check in. Eventually, they want to make the ticketing experience on the site even more interactive with streaming MP3s and the chance to buy band merchandise. Peterson says venues could eventually pre-sell drink tickets so events are even more seamless for consumers.

The Nadas are one of the artists using Tikly in beta. Just visit their Facebook page, click on Tikly and then select the number of tickets you want to purchase and buy them through Facebook.

For bands, Tikly?s format is simple. A set fee is added to each ticket at the check-out, depending on ticket price:

  • Tickets under $10 have a $1 per ticket fee
  • Tickets $10 to $75 have a 10% per ticket fee
  • Tickets over $75 have a flat $7.50 per ticket fee

Tikly is fully integrated with Dwolla, a mobile payment system with a flat fee of $0.25 for anything over $10.

But other ticketing services offer low fees, and tried-and-tested platforms.

Eventbrite tells Mashable that their fees are never more than $9.95 for ticket-buyers. It charges 2.5% of the ticket price plus $0.99 per ticket, capping out at nearly $10 max, even for the priciest tickets. For event organizers posting events on Eventbrite, there is no set-up fee and no fee period for free events.

Ticketfly CMO Gannon Hall tells Mashable, "For organizers, Ticketfly?s fees are variable and depend on the cost of each ticket. It?s a revenue share between the promoter (or sometimes the artist) and Ticketfly, but there is no set percentage fee. There are no flat surcharges and/or set up fees (unlike other platforms).?

From a ticket buyer?s perspective, Ticketfly?s service fees typically range 30 percent lower than those of Ticketmaster, says a spokesperson.

StubHub, like its parent company eBay, manages the marketplace, so buyers and sellers never interact. It's completely free for fans to list tickets for sale, and StubHub does not buy, own or price any tickets, a spokesperson tells Mashable in an email message. But buyers pay StubHub 10% of the ticket price and sellers net 85% of the ticket price.

HBT: Red Sox's Crawford has Tommy John surgery

Carl Crawford underwent Tommy John surgery on his left elbow today. And I?ll save you the suspense: the surgery was successful.

Here?s a statement from the Red Sox, via Maureen A. Mullen of CSNNE.com:

?Carl Crawford underwent a successful left elbow ulnar collateral ligament reconstruction (Tommy John surgery) performed by Dr. James Andrews today in Pensacola, FL. We expect Carl to make a full recovery.?

Having the surgery now rather than in October gives Crawford a better chance of contributing in the early part of 2013, but he?s far from a sure thing to be ready for the start of the season. So yes, you can expect lots of drama on that topic during spring training.

Crawford was limited to just 30 games this season due to wrist and elbow issues and has a disappointing .260/.292/.419 batting line over his first two seasons with Boston. The 31-year-old outfielder still has five years and $102.5 million left on his contract.

Take Your Hospital Billing System To Computers To Cut Work And ...

PRLog (Press Release) - Aug 24, 2012 -
The hospital is the most necessary institution of modern life. The vast improvement in technology has brought about a revolution in the health of humans across the globe. The field of science and medicine is the one which can take the most advantage of developing technology and computer software for hospital. Hospitals use the latest equipment to help increasing number of patients. No matter how rare a disease technology has made it possible to either cure it or lessen its impact to a considerable degree.

Visit http://www.webmyne.com/products/med2x-hospital-management... to know more about HMS

A city is incomplete without a hospital. A new hospital comes up to cater to patient demands specializing in ailments. All the hospitals are visited by plenty of patients regularly. Thousands of sick or ailing people search for quick cures. Every hospital big or small has to deal with reception, casualty, opd, indoor, dialysis, pathology, blood bank and many more requirements and their administration. As the patient moves from department to department the records are needed which is made available with a single click on the staff computer. Webmyne is a supplier of advanced medical software to take care of the hospital?s needs.

Lots of hospitals are well equipped to restore human body parts such as blood and blood components, heart, kidneys etc. the changing times has brought in innovation to prevent the loss of body parts due to minor and major accidents. When people involved in accidents are rushed to timely medical attention their wounds can be minimized for faster recovery. People are donating their organs like eyes and other internal organs upon the death of a beloved one. The hospitals and doctors make these available to needy persons. The departments involved with the surgical procedures need all the patient data to be forwarded and updated in short times for the hospital billing system. The software helps the staff to do this quickly and accurately.

In the days before the advent of the computer as an instrument of office automation the administrative chores were a big burden for the medical staff. The clerks needed to have knowhow of both the medical terms as well as the administrative works like accounts etc. the computer has made it possible to automate this hard work requiring lot of time through special software. Moreover the clinical data management software can be shared and made available to more than one computer either in the same building or in multiple locations. It is also easily accessed worldwide through the web and the internet.

The software deals with an object oriented approach and the multitier architecture allows specialized use by various departments without having to concern themselves of all the irrelevant details to their special work. The different applications of pathology, radiology are linked up through the computer network and are accessed at multiple points to view data to speed up decisions and save time. This results in accurate diagnosis and saving of life and money of the patient. The computer software is designed to handle new innovations and requirements. This is huge savings in time and money for the hospital administration. The patients do not have to wait long in line ups to fill up forms and running to various departments for clerical information. The software is a huge step in modernizing how the hospital deals with patient data with speed and accuracy without accumulating paper bulk.

AUSA support same sex marriage | Te Waha Nui

An Auckland students? association has voted to support both marriage and adoption by same-sex couples.

Auckland University Students? Association (AUSA) has officially endorsed the removal of gender from the 1955 Marriage Act and law reform that would allow same sex couples to adopt.

Queer rights officer Levi Joule says he feels the time is right because of private members? bills in the ballot in Parliament.

?I felt that it was appropriate for AUSA to make a stand in support of marriage equality and adoption law reform on behalf of its LGBT students,? he said.

?There shouldn?t be discrimination in the law against people because of who they love and, currently, in the 1955 Marriage Act there is.

?Their love is not any different so there is no reason why it should be treated differently in the law.?

Executive director of Rainbow Youth Tom Hamilton says the student union support will benefit the culture and diversity of the university and give a greater sense of belonging to queer youth.

?They?re going to feel more accepted.?

He says it will help give the queer community more visibility, which it needs.

?People are going to have an idea of where to go if they have questions about their own sexuality, so it helps in the coming-out process.?

He says AUSA?s endorsement sends the message to queer students the association is prepared to make a strong stand in support of them.

?As a queer student, I?m really happy I?m a member of a students? association that supports me having the same rights as my heterosexual peers.?

University of Auckland student Chris Meadows-Bonner says he is extremely happy the association has endorsed marriage equality and adoption law reform.

?Everyone?s for it as far as I can tell.?

Joule says successful and legitimate relationships do not just consist of a man and a woman.

?Those relationships deserve the same recognition as an opposite-sex relationship.?

He says he often hears religious reasons why marriage laws should not be changed.

?To use a religious argument to keep marriage between a man and a woman when it is a secular institution makes no sense whatsoever.?

He says there is no threat to families from marriage between same-sex couples.

?The gender of the two people in the relationship has no bearing on how the children would be raised.?

He says a lot of people have problems with marriage as an institution and that civil union is more appropriate for them.

?I recognise marriage isn?t for everybody. But it?s about giving people the option to choose and not face discrimination because of their sexuality. It?s just a basic fairness issue really.?

Hamilton says a student group backing marriage equality will also help with lobbying Parliament on related issues.

??Having a student body backing you instead of individuals would be beneficial.?

Request Reprint | Print | About Author | Report Problem | Tweet This Are you planning to build a house? If so, then you must use a strong and durable base for the foundation of the house. The construction might be done on concrete foundations that will provide safety and security to the dwellers. Before constructing the foundation, decide on whether it will be shallow or deep, depending upon which the concrete would be laid. A vapor barrier is installed before pouring a concrete base that makes it strong and hard. They are of three types such as,
  • T-Shaped
  • Slab on Grade Foundation
  • Frost Protected Foundation
  • The T-shaped foundations can be constructed in the places where the ground freezes. A footing is placed on the base and the walls are made. Liquid concrete is poured in a frame that dries up, giving it a solid look; this is how a concrete slab is made. The slab on grade is thicker although it is poured at one time. Hence, reinforcing slab on grade foundation for the architecture can a smart choice. T-shaped foundations required thrice coating of concrete whereas frost protected base requires monolithic coating of concrete. There can be much confusion on the right kind of concrete base for the foundation of the building. There are quite a few groundwork Manchester agencies in UK that to help in choosing the right kind of foundation for your building.

The concrete base is water resistant that lessens basement water problems. The strong wall construction protects from fire. Moreover, concrete base do not need any regular maintenance. The strength and durable features of concrete enables it to protect the house from extreme climatic conditions. The designs are adaptable to home architecture and leave a smooth finish on the house. Moreover, constructing concrete foundations is cost-effective and energy efficient. The concrete blocks are made of cement, lime, water and crushed rocks that make it strong and earthquake resistant. It also has high thermal mass which is adding life-long sustainability to the concrete base.

Earthquake or any other natural calamity can cause severe damage to the house and can even uproot it from the base. Hence, building concrete base for the house can be a smart move on your part. The strength and firmness of concrete will keep the house intact to the ground and will lessen the possibility of cracks that might occur due to earthquake. However, constructing concrete ground for the house is not an easy work to do; the UK groundwork Manchester agencies may help you to keep your dream house safe with concrete block building and groundwork.

We are a groundwork Manchester company, helping you to build your house with concrete foundations to lessen the number of cracks on the floor and make the house weather sustainable.

Nikon announces the Android-powered Coolpix 5800c

    Nikon S800c

Nikon today announced its first Android-powered camera, the previously rumored S800c. It's a 16-megapixel shooter with a 10x optical zoom and NIKKOR lens. And, yes, it runs Android. Android 2.3 Gingerbread, to be exact, and it's Wifi-enabled (802.11 b/g/n), of course.

Answering the big question, though, is that, yes, it's got full access to Google Play. That means Instagram. That means HDR apps. That means Facebook. That means Google+. Anything you shoot with the S800c, you'll be able to share the same as with your phone.

The UI, which is displayed on a 3.5-inch OLED touchscreen, appears to be a mix of traditional "stock" Android -- that's an icon-laden homescreen you see above, complete with Gingerbread launcher -- with what we presume will be a bevy of tweaks. Nikon's providing its own Picturetown app, just in case you need yet another place to upload your pics. The camera also has aGPS, so everything can be geotagged.

    Other specs of note include:

    • 25mm to 250mm shooting
    • Vibration reduction (VR)
    • Built-in flash
    • 8 frames per second still shooting
    • 1080p video recording
    • 2GB on-board storage

Will it get you to put down your phone and pick up a "real" camera of relatively similar expense? Time will tell. We'll also have to see just how useful Nikon's UI ends up being.

And we'll have to see what the hell folks are able to hack onto it.

Heineken earnings hit overshadows Tiger bid success

SINGAPORE/BRUSSELS (Reuters) - Higher input costs and weak European sales depressed Heineken NV's earnings in the first six months, overshadowing its promise of a better second half and a minor success in its battle for control of Asia's Tiger beer.

The world's third-largest brewer suffered a 4 percent decline in first-half net profit before one-offs on a like-for-like basis, against market expectations of growth, hit by rising production costs, weakness in Europe and investments in Africa.

Heineken said beer drinking would stay subdued in western Europe in the second half, underlining its need for scale in faster-growing markets such as southeast Asia where it is battling for control of Asia Pacific Breweries (APB) .

Heineken raised its stake in APB to about 44.6 percent after buying shares which sources said were from Singapore's Temasek Holdings and other shareholders, underlining its resolve to fend off rival Thai Beverage .

The Dutch company, a co-owner of APB since 1931, is seeking control of the Singapore-listed company to gain a larger slice of one of the last beer markets that is still growing rapidly and is not yet dominated by a global brewing group.

Heineken Chief Executive Jean-Francois van Boxmeer told a conference call on Wednesday that the Heineken and Tiger brands had taken off in southeast Asia in the past 15 years.

"This is the most rapidly growing area with the strongest demographics and strongest economic growth in Asia and we deem that a strategic interest for us," he said.

Big brewers have sought to boost volumes in emerging markets and steer developed world drinkers to pricier beer. Heineken is among the most reliant on the stagnant European market, which contributed 60 percent of its revenue and 40 percent of operating profit in the first half.

Heineken's first-half operating earnings fell in both western and eastern Europe, but grew in other regions. Cold, wet weather in northern Europe meant far lower sales of thirst-quenching lager.

Group net profit before one-offs dropped to 705 million euros, at the bottom of the 703-789 million euro range in a Reuters poll of eight banks and brokerages, for which the average was 737 million.

    TIGER FIGHT

Heineken shares were 2.5 percent lower at 11:10 a.m. British time, making them among the weakest performers in the FTSEurofirst 300 index <.fteu3> of leading European stocks.

The company pushed into Mexico in 2010 and has now set its sights on control of markets including Indonesia, Singapore, Thailand and Vietnam, even if it was only stirred into action by Thai billionaire Charoen Sirivadhanabhakdi.

Charoen, owner of Heineken rival Thai Beverage , has in the past month built up a stake of 26.4 percent in Fraser and Neave (F&N) , the Singapore holding company whose joint venture with Heineken controls APB.

Heineken has bid S$7.94 billion ($6.4 billion) for F&N and for all of the APB shares held by others. F&N's board has approved its $53 per share bid, but must win backing from shareholders, which also include Japan's Kirin .

The Dutch brewer also has to prevent Kindest Place, owned by Charoen's son-in-law, from building its 8.6 percent stake in APB to 10 percent, a level that could prevent Heineken from delisting APB.

By buying Temasek's holding, Heineken has kept it out of the hands of its Thai rivals.

Buying Temasek's small stake is just another step Heineken is taking to strengthen its grip on APB and to "prevent the Thais from throwing another spanner into their plan," said Andy Sim, an analyst at DBS Vickers in Singapore.

The $53 per share offer announced by Heineken on Friday has placed the spotlight back onto Charoen, Thailand's second-richest man, and Kindest Place, which offered to buy F&N's direct stake of 7.3 percent in APB for S$55 a share.

APB shares were flat at S$53 while F&N shares fell 1 percent to S$8.27.

Google: Software patents 'not helpful to the marketplace'

    Notification bar patent

Addressing the attendees of the Technology Policy Institute's conference today in Mountain View, Calif., Google public policy director Pablo Chavez made it plain that as a company, Google is fed up with software patents, patent wars, and the way they affect the consumer. During the question and answer period, Chavez said,

We think that these patent wars are not helpful to consumers. They're not helpful to the marketplace. They're not helpful to innovation.

It's not the first time Google has spoken out against software patents. During the infamous Oracle v. Google trial, Google lawyer Kent Walker said that they are "gumming up the works of innovation," and in a joint petition to the U.S. Supreme court with Metlife, Bank of America, Morgan Stanley and others, Google said "The recent surge in patents on abstract ideas such as how to run a business or software that merely implements such methods has not promoted innovation in the financial services or information technology fields -- to the contrary, such patents create a drag on innovation."

It's plain to see that Google believes using patents and courtrooms to halt innovation or ban products as a bad idea. I couldn't agree more. Software patents are bad for business, bad for consumers, and bad for the industry as a whole. The small gains by winners of these suits is outweighed by the harm done, as small folks with big ideas can no longer implement them out of fear of litigation. If a company like Samsung or HTC can't stay out of court every time they move too much product, what chance do independent developers have?

This is the Google I like seeing. The one who stands up to the silly notion that ideas are property, and instead places value on the methods used to achieve those ideas. The Google who knows that hurting the consumer is never the best choice. Not the Google who joins in the fray, then condemns the behavior three days later. Google is likely to find little sympathy after using Motorola's patents to go after Apple, then publicly saying they think companies doing such is a bad idea. Motorola may be doing business as a separate company, but Google, as the common owner, is ultimately responsible, and Motorola should share the same patent philosophy.

We wish them the best in their campaign to reform the patent system in the U.S., as well as the abuse of it that some companies see as standard operating procedure.

Mo. congressman defies GOP leaders to stay in race

JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. (AP) ? Rep. Todd Akin defied the nation's top Republicans Tuesday to forge ahead with his besieged Senate campaign, declaring that GOP leaders were overreacting by abandoning him because of comments that women's bodies can prevent pregnancies in cases of "legitimate rape."

Akin pledged to carry on with his quest to unseat Democrat Claire McCaskill. But his bid faced tall obstacles: a lack of money, a lack of party support and no assurance that his apologies would be enough to heal a self-inflicted political wound.

"I misspoke one word in one sentence on one day, and all of a sudden, overnight, everybody decides, 'Well, Akin can't possibly win,'" he said on a national radio show hosted by former Republican presidential candidate Mike Huckabee. "Well, I don't agree with that."

Akin predicted he would bounce back from the political crisis threatening his campaign and capture a seat that is pivotal to Republican hopes of regaining control of the Senate.

"I'm in this race for the long haul, and we're going to win it," he told radio host Dana Loesch in St. Louis.

If he stays on the ballot, Akin will have to rebuild without any money from the national party and with new misgivings among rank-and-file Republican voters who just two weeks ago propelled him to a comfortable victory in a hotly contested three-way primary.

In a potential sign of his strategy, Akin appealed Tuesday to Christian evangelicals, anti-abortion activists and anti-establishment Republicans. He said he remains the best messenger to highlight respect for life and liberty that he contends are crumbling under the big-government policies of President Barack Obama.

Akin appealed to that audience directly during his interview with Huckabee, making allusions to the 9/11 terrorist attacks and focusing on the idea he had only misplaced a single word during a Sunday interview with St. Louis television station KTVI.

But Akin has been roundly criticized both for using the words "legitimate rape" and saying a woman's body has the ability to prevent conception after such an attack.

Hours earlier, Akin posted an online video in which he apologized again for his remarks. Campaign spokesman Ryan Hite said the apology was intended to cover both the reference to "legitimate rape" and Akin's assertion that rape victims have a natural defense against pregnancy. The video will run as a 30-second ad on TV stations statewide for several days, Hite said.

Tuesday was the final day in which Akin could withdraw from the race without a court order. As the 5 p.m. deadline to withdraw neared, Republican leaders intensified their pressure on Akin to exit.

Sen. Roy Blunt issued a joint statement Tuesday with all four of Missouri's living former Republican senators ? John Ashcroft, Kit Bond, Jim Talent and John Danforth ? saying "it serves the national interest" for Akin to step aside.

Pointing to the group, Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney said the congressman should "accept their counsel."

A Romney aide said the candidate had been inclined to let Akin make the decision on his own. But after the Missouri lawmakers called for Akin to go, Romney wanted to make his position clear, said the aide, who requested anonymity because the aide was not authorized to publicly discuss Romney's thinking.

Akin provoked the political uproar when he was asked in the KTVI interview whether his general opposition to abortion extends to women who have been raped.

"It seems to me, first of all, from what I understand from doctors, that's really rare. If it's a legitimate rape, the female body has ways to try to shut that whole thing down," Akin said.

It's not clear if Akin's campaign will have the financial support to wage a prolonged advertising battle against McCaskill in the expensive St. Louis and Kansas City markets and the Republican-rich area of southwest Missouri.

The campaign arm of the Senate Republicans has already withdrawn $5 million in advertising planned for the Missouri race. The Karl Rove-backed Crossroads organization pulled its ads, too.

Crossroads President and CEO Steven Law suggested Tuesday that Akin was potentially helping Democrats retain their Senate majority by remaining in the race.

"The stakes in this election are far bigger than any one individual," said Brian Walsh, a spokesman for the National Republican Senatorial Campaign Committee. By staying in the race, Akin "is putting at great risk many of the issues that he and others in the Republican Party are fighting for."

Without that financial backing, Akin will need the support of social conservatives, who have formed his political base through a 12-year congressional career.

Noreen McCann, who lives in the same suburban St. Louis area as Akin, said Tuesday that his rape comment hasn't weakened her support for him. McCann expressed frustration that Akin was being publicly flayed for his ill-chosen words while other Democrats ? specifically President Bill Clinton ? have survived scandals that included accusations of sexual impropriety and lies.

Akin "is a man of principle. I trust and respect his integrity and his commitment to defending American values," said McCann, who had passed out Akin fliers on primary election day. "I think he wants to defend all innocent human life. If he misspoke, or it was in the wrong context, that is not a major problem for me."

But other Missouri Republicans are second-guessing their support for Akin.

Steven and Carolyn Sipes, a pair of retired public school teachers who are GOP committee members in southwest Missouri's Christian County, both voted for Akin in the primary. Carolyn is now doing some soul-searching prayer about whether Akin remains the best choice. Her husband believes Republicans will have a better shot of unseating McCaskill without Akin.

"If he decides to stay in, I'll back him to the hilt," Steven Sipes said. But "I think it would be better probably if he did drop out at this point. He's getting a lot of negative publicity."

Akin's campaign released an open letter Tuesday from Jack Willke, former president of the U.S. National Right to Life Committee, stating he was "outraged at how quickly Republican leaders have deserted" Akin.

Akin "remains a strong and courageous pro-life leader ? and awkward wording in one sound bite doesn't negate that," Willke's statement said.
