But what do these symbols stand for?
Let?s have a look at some of the famous club football logo designs:
1. Manchester United:
This famous emblem consists of an image of a red devil with an image of a ship over it and the entire image is encased in a crest like image that contains the team?s name and small images of two footballs. The entire image is crafted in red and yellow colors which makes it eye catching and bright. This red devil image has been derived from the official crest of the Manchester city while the ship is a reference to the introduction of the Manchester shipping canal which is an industrial asset for the city.

2. Liverpool:

The current design has been inspired by a civic coat of arms of the Metropolitan Borough of Chelsea that contains an image of a lion with a stick. The prominent colors in the emblem are blue and white which are also the team?s colors.
4. FC Barcelona:
Although their emblem has faced minor changes over the years, the basic concept seems to remain the same. The design consists of a complex yet delicate design that contain the Catalan flag on one side, the St. Jordi?s cross on the other side and a stripped design of the team?s football colors with an image of a football underneath it. One factor that brings all these images together and adds a sophisticated touch is that the entire image is encased in a golden colored shield.
One common factor that has been observed in all these famous football logos is their string link to history and tradition. Almost all of the emblems represent a popular fact of the region it has been derived from.

There are 183 million active computer game players in the United States.?The average young person will spend 10,000 hours gaming by the age of 21. More than 5 million ?extreme? gamers in the U.S. play an average of 45 hours a week. Videogames took in about $15.5 billion last year.
Most of what you hear about this phenomenon is doom and gloom ? people becoming addicted, isolated and socially inept. Some worry that gaming is pulling people away from productive work, fulfilling relationships and real life.?But game designer Jane McGonigal says the reason for the mass exodus to virtual worlds is that videogames are increasingly fulfilling genuine human needs. In a very popular TED talk ??and in her first book,?Reality Is Broken,?just out in paperback ? she suggests we can use the lessons of game design to fix what is wrong with the real world.
Jane McGonigal is the director of Game RD at the Institute for the Future and creative director of?Social Chocolate. BusinessWeek called her ?one of the ten most important innovators to watch.? Oprah magazine thinks she?s??one of the twenty most inspiring women in the world.? And MIT Technology Review named her??one of top 35 innovators changing the world through technology.?
Terrence McNally interviewed?McGonigal?for AlterNet by phone from her home in the San Francisco Bay Area.
Terrence McNally:?I see four strands in what I?ve read about you and your work: Buddhism, games, positive psychology, and entrepreneurism. How do you describe your path?
Jane McGonigal:
That?s a pretty good breakdown, I like it. I think, first and foremost, I try to help people unleash their real-life superpowers to bring out the best in them so they achieve epic wins lead extraordinary lives, and be of extraordinary service to other people.
I have a background in theater and recreation. I used to work with the New York City Department of Parks Recreation. Theater is play, and recreation ? where we come together and play in real spaces ? is part of building community in the city. That background has been a big part of why I think that play can serve to bring people together in the real world
TM:
You begin the book by defining what a game is. And you weren?t just describing video games, but all kinds of games.
JM:?
Absolutely. It?s important that we put video games in the context of human history. We?ve been playing games for literally as long as we?ve been human. There?s no civilization we have a record of that doesn?t have games. For folks who feel alienated from the world of video games or from the gamers in their lives, it may help to understand that gaming is fundamentally a part of being human.
This ability to come together and play by artificial rules is something that no other species does. The great philosopher, Johan Huizinger, said we are never more human than when we play. I think it?s important to keep in perspective that video games are part of that tradition and that legacy.
TM:?I imagine when a lot of people think of a video game or a computer game or a virtual game, their accent is on the video, the virtual or the computer. You?re saying that, at its root ? whatever the medium ? there is something common to people playing games.
JM:?The medium of computer and video games has taken the fundamental psychology that underlies gaming to a new level, and made possible the network effect of people playing actively multi-player games. For the first time in human history, we can have millions of people playing the same game at the same time.
In the same way that agriculture or the design of roads connecting cities took humanity to newer levels of cooperation, I see networked games as one of those technologies that brings us together in a way that hasn?t happened before.

UPDATED 5:52 p.m. ET PORTLAND ? A flight out of the Portland International Airport returned to the terminal Tuesday, after the flight crew had a problem with a belligerent passenger who was yelling about terrorism, Portland's KGW reports.
Yazeed Mohammed Abunayyan was ?yelling profanities and swinging his fist at the flight attendant, hitting or attempting to hit several passengers, and speaking or singing about Usama [Osama] bin Laden and his hatred of women,? according to court documents obtained by KGW.
Witnesses said Abunayyan refused to turn off an electronic cigarette when asked by airline staff, according to Port of Portland spokesman Steve Johnson. Then, the pilot decided to return to PDX, where Abunayyan and his companion were escorted off the plane.
Wednesday he was charged with interfering with the operation of the aircraft in federal court.
Abunayyan, of Saudi Arabia, was arrested Sunday in Ashland, Ore., on suspicion of driving under the influence and several other charges after police said he hit two patrol cars and nearly ran over a pedestrian during a police chase,?according to the Ashland Daily Tidings paper.
Cell phone video shared with KGW by a passenger on the flight showed the man getting escorted off the plane. Passengers said he disobeyed the flight crew and started yelling. Then, other passengers tackled him.

"Every guy who was in my area was ready to go. It was not even a thought. You could tell buckles were off. People were already leaning toward the aisles," one passenger recalled.
"It almost made me cry to see the way everybody responded. Because the gentlemen that could help got up and helped the stewardess. She was just a little bitty thing," another passenger explained.
Continental Airlines also issued this official statement: "Continental flight 1118, Portland to Houston, returned to Portland when a passenger refused to obey the 'No Smoking' sign. The flight landed safely, without incident at approximately 1:15 p.m. local and was met by local law enforcement. The passenger and traveling companion were taken off the plane. The flight resumed and departed Portland at approximately 2:05 p.m. local"
Continental flight 1118 was headed to Houston.
E-cigarettes, which heat a liquid nicotine solution, are not specifically prohibited by the Transportation Safety Administration, like tobacco cigarettes, but they are banned by Continental Airlines.
Hebron Academy Gets Back into the ?Pink? of Things
Breast cancer takes on new meaning at Hebron this winter
HEBRON, MAINE (February 21, 2012) ? Members of Hebron Academy heralded the return of the ?Pink Socks? campaign this February, during which school athletic teams raised funds and awareness for breast cancer. Hebron?s Varsity Boys? Basketball and Varsity Girls? Hockey squads were ?in the pink,? donning pink accompaniments to their athletic uniforms during games against New Hampton and Marianapolis earlier this month.
One may wonder, ?why now?? for Hebron Academy?s ?pink? program, considering October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month. Hebron student-athletes expanded the existing campaign, originally brought forth by the Varsity Girls? Hockey team years ago, in remembrance of the late Sheyla Wide, mother of current student and Hebron basketball forward Royce Finley ?12, who died of breast cancer shortly after the New Year. In addition to pink in-game attire, Varsity Boys? Basketball players and coaches also donned warm-up shirts embroidered with ?S.W.,? Wide?s initials. The idea to honor Ms. Wide was the team?s own.
?The program fosters school spirit and garners support from all areas of the community including Hebron Academy scholar-athletes, parents, friends and even unexpected sources who help make it all possible,? stated Hebron Academy Varsity Boys? Basketball Assistant Coach Colin Griggs. ?The crux of our ?Pink Socks? campaign lies in celebrating and encouraging the cause while remembering those who have been involved in the fight, like Ms. Wide and her son Royce.?
The ?Pink Socks? initiative has been in place at the Academy for more than four years, originating with Hebron?s Varsity Girls? Hockey team, inspired by a similar program at another school. In the campaign?s first run, players donned only pink hockey socks. When Hebron parents Mr. and Mrs. Aaskov P ?11 generously donated pink jerseys in 2011, the program took on new meaning, becoming ?Pink in the Rink.? Since its induction, ?Pink in the Rink? has generated more than $3,500 towards the Maine Breast Cancer Coalition in Bangor.
?I am thrilled to celebrate Hebron?s 4th year of ?Pink in the Rink.? The girls have really taken hold of the idea and run with it, and it?s something that they look forward to every year,? remarked Hebron Academy Varsity Girls? Hockey Head Coach Katie Coyne. ??Pink in the Rink? is not only a memorable event, but it?s also a way for Hebron students to learn the invaluable lesson of service.?
Pink pops up often at Hebron Academy. This past fall, wearing pink socks in their game against Gould, members of the Hebron Varsity Girls? Soccer team raised more than $1,000 for breast cancer through bake sales and on-campus fundraisers.
Student athletes from the boys? basketball and girls? hockey programs are selling tee shirts and fundraising throughout February. To date, the teams have raised more than $1,200. All proceeds benefit the Maine Breast Cancer Coalition in Bangor.

Human activity is likely a greater threat to coastal groundwater used for drinking water supplies than rising sea levels from climate change, according to a study conducted by geoscientists from the University of Saskatchewan and McGill University in Montreal.
Grant Ferguson from the U of S Department of Civil and Geological Engineering worked with Tom Gleeson from McGill's Department of Civil Engineering to examine data from more than 1,400 coastal watersheds. What they found was that with the exception of very flat coastal areas that can be inundated with sea water rare in North America most coastal aquifers are relatively unaffected by rising sea level.
What does appear to affect these aquifers is humans pumping water from wells for drinking, domestic use and irrigation.
"The bulk of the research in recent years has focused on climate change effects on coastal groundwater but increases in water demand could be more important," Ferguson says. "This is particularly true in growing coastal cities and towns where groundwater is often an important water supply."
Aquifers are geological formations such as sand or gravel that are saturated with water, much like a sponge. Wells draw fresh water from these aquifers, which are then recharged through surface water such as rain and melting snow.
Coastal aquifers, however, are bordered on one side by seawater that can start to migrate into the formation and into wells if too much fresh water is drawn out. Similarly, rising sea levels can cause seawater to enter into the formation. To date, only problems related to pumping have been documented in Canada.
"Coastal aquifers are very vulnerable to increased water demand so we have real policy opportunities," Gleeson says. "We can reduce consumption of groundwater in coastal areas or manage groundwater use wisely."
It is estimated that one billion people world-wide live in coastal areas, and many are dependent on ground water. In Canada, about 25 per cent of people rely on groundwater, with some areas almost totally dependent on the resource.
The paper, "Vulnerability of coastal aquifers to groundwater use and climate change," was published online February 19 in Nature Climate Change. The research was made possible in part through support from the Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council of Canada and the Canadian Institute for Advanced Research (CIFAR). Gleeson is a CIFAR Junior Fellow.
